The Bit by Bit SJA Review | The Nightmare Man Part One

Ok this is how Bit by Bit works. I sit here, watching The Nightmare Man for the first time. I watch it, and I type, all at the same time. This is the first time I’ll have seen The Nightmare Man, and as I watch it, I’ll post my comments of it onto here. So. I watch, I see something interesting or I have an opinion, and I write it down. The second I’ve seen it, I’ll write it on here. Of course it will look like one big review on here. But it’s a review that I’ll be writing on the spot. A more accurate term would be Evaluation. Bit by Bit, second by second, Evaluation.

Just got to wait for it to start. Still waiting, you’ll have read all of this in a second. But I have to actually wait. Nearly on now. Reminder has come up on Sky, it must be time for the Sarah Jane Adventures. In a minute. Well yes, this song is very internet. SJA now! At last!

Oh the same introduction. New clips. Seen most of that in the trailer. Introduction from Luke Smith. Lights over London, oh its Gwen Cooper! Joke, Luke speaking to camera like Gwen did in TW COE. Luke says someone has been waiting for him. Creepy kids music. Ha! Nightmare Man called him Lukie Boy. No new titles. Damn. One Year Ago. Luke saying he’s taking his A-Levels a year early. Oh more Slitheen. Damn. Not K9 again. Oh here we go. Splat. Definitely gone more over the top with the slime. So yeah, Luke’s taking his A Levels early. Going to Oxford a year early. All A stars? Maybe? Told you! He’s going to university. A year early. Now he’s scared, back to the video camera.

Week before he goes, 4 days. He gets scared cos he’s leaving for Oxford early. I think Luke’s gone through his wardrobe from Series Two and Three this episode. This is going very quick. Clyde has his top button done up on his shirt? No, oh well. Yeah cos all aliens strike at Christmas.

Oh they do. We’ll get you looking all cool? Cool is cool, Sarah Jane. But new cool clothes for Luke! Then a yellow car for Luke! Not cooooool….. Oh Luke being overdramatic again. He makes so much fuss. And now a mother to alien son conversation in the car. In the yellow car…. Well you’re going to keep fighting aliens when you go. WELL OF COURSE IM GOING TO MISS YOU! She shouts…..

So. First appearance from Mr Nightmare now? Ohhhhhhhhh, SJ and K9 insulting Luke. Oh he’s woken up. Three days to go. (I must admit I laughed…. at SJ and K9 insulting Luke. I did laugh. Oh dear.) You don’t dream Luke….. so yeah of course he’s dreaming. Do we need the comedy music for every argument? Really? Then the dark night and the return of Mr Nightmare.  Contrast. More arguments. Nightmares a little ridiculous. Though Mr Nightmare is very chilling. Go Davros, I mean, Julian Bleach. Has he gone Italian? Oh, quite scary. This really is creepy. Two Days.

Nightmare. WHAT. Call the supercomputer! Mr Smith gives his verdict. IS HE STILL DREAMING? Oh no, it’s a party. It’s a party. Haha, love the card. Not sure about Girls Aloud music. Haha, Luke acting more normal this series. Much better than him in Series Two. Everyone is. Even Sarah Jane is better in this series. Oh, and a lovely afternoon nap. Oh, Mr Nightmare! Really not dramatic appearance. Though yes he is scary. Brilliant Bleach performance. He can’t say Mr Nightmare’s name…… Ooh.

So how many Ohs and Oohs have there been? A lot. Because it is actually quite good. Lots of twists and turns in this, a brilliant episode. And the most chilling nightmare. What if Luke is forgotten and replaced? And I hope they had a photocopy of that picture. Good writing. Keeps you interested, curious, a little scared. And it isn’t such a kids show, which is brilliant. It’s lost the ‘let’s count with SJ’ feel to it. It’s more grown up, interesting and more like Doctor Who. It is very good. Dream about people forgetting him, the bonfire.

And now the final day and we lead to the video tape, the recording. Everyone’s asleep and Luke knows if he falls asleep, there’s ultimate power to Mr Nightmare. One last nightmare and Mr Nightmare becomes real and takes over the world. And Luke falls asleeeeeeppppp….. And here he is. The Nightmare Man is real. Well now he’s there Luke can wake others up and stop him.

Oh so much for me. He’s stuck in the middle of nothing. Mr Nightmare is victorious.

WOOOO! Next time. Mr Nightmare can now take over and make everyone have nightmares. SJ knows all about it, she finds the video. So now she can wake everyone up and she can stop the Nightmare man. And wake Luke up. But it’s not going to be that simple.

So join me tomorrow night for my bit by bit review of Part 2! If I remember. If I forget to do a bit by bit review tomorrow I will do an overall review after the episode. But I should be doing a bit by bit review of Part 2. So. Tomorrow, Quarter Past 5. Bit by bit review. Published at around 6pm tomorrow. See you then :)

James
