"The End of the World" EDWE 6

Written by: RTD
Broadcast: 2005

Doctor Who. I see Patrick Throughton, the Times New Roman logo, the black and white vortex. Doctor Who End of the World is the most obsure episode in the world. Trying to continue the success of Rose, End of the World tests Doctor and Companion, as well as introducing an amazing amount of aliens.

Right, these views are, as always, controversial. Truth is, it bores me. The Doctor and Rose have a relationship that is very modern and right for 2005, but I mean it's completely disobeying the rules of Classic DW. We also have the alien language translater thing on the TARDIS which is a rubbish idea because it takes the FUN  MUST BE ADDED! rule of RTD.

And what a weird place to take Rose! "Oh yeah I'll show her the wonders of the universe, so wonderful that YA PLANET BLOWS UP IN THE FAR FUTURE!" And we also get the first real explanation of the Time War. *SIGH*

The fact the whole thing comes down to money is frankly a little bit pathetic. A Doctor clearly not interested in the fact he's in a show with years of history, aliens who try to be funny rather than actually taking on the situation, and Rose who has no reason to go and talk to Cassandra, apart from to insult her! We have a mean depressed emo Doctor as well, who moans about the death of his race and then goes and destroys Cassandra.

I'll now move onto Jabe. Yeah, was she needed? A romantic interest for the Doctor. She's a tree that melts at the end, boo hoo.

End of the World is an all right episode, but shouldn't be classed as DW. It needs more! Then it might be ok. So, that's another emotional rollercoaster of an episode. What's next?
